Not terribly smart
We spent Friday night in Williams at a Holiday Inn Express ("Stay Smart™"). Saturday morning, while Dave raced his bike, I did a longish run of 90 minutes on the dragonfly-choked farm roads surrounding town.
(I know that the blogging theme for July is supposed to be food, but for me it is turning out to be bugs. Go figure.)
It was a lovely run, the first time since Ironman Arizona that I have successfully run longer than an hour. I've been having knee problems since about three weeks after that race. Knee problems that have been painful enough to make me stop mid-run. And that is serious; very little keeps me from running.
I finished the run before it got too hot (smart!). I got back to the hotel lobby, and, as breakfast hours were still on, helped myself to a second breakfast. I allowed myself to take a cinnamon roll; I had run about nine miles after all.
After polishing it off, though, I realized that I really should have taken a photo of the much-celebrated HIE cinnamon roll. So I went back down and got a second one. (Not smart.) I photographed it. Then I ate it. (Totally not smart.)
Which would have been fine if we had not also gotten a huge lunch followed by milkshakes on the way home. (Seemed like a good idea at the time, but really not smart at all.)
We're staying at another HIE for my race at Donner Lake next weekend. I am glad to report that I will not be anywhere near the hotel during breakfast hours. But I can't promise we won't stop for milkshakes on the way home.
