Another long ride recounted in list format
I convinced two awesome friends to play hooky and ride with me today. Here are some highlights.
Mile 0: Left house at 8:10am, ten minutes late.
Mile 5: Met up with first riding partner at 8:38am. She was running late, too.
Mile 15: Got a flat front tire while climbing the first hill of the ride. Fixed it.
Mile 22: Met up with second riding partner. She had been waiting for a long time.
Mile 40: Dropped sunglasses in toilet at Pt. Reyes fire station as I was flushing (aka pulling a "Sweeney"). Unlike Sweeney, I managed to rescue them. Luckily the restroom had soap.
Mile 45: Felt a few tiny drops of rain.
Mile 60: Stopped at bakery. Got a giant maple-oatmeal-walnut scone. YUMMMM.
Mile 75: Broke a spoke just as I was cresting White's Hill. Rear wheel was unrideable. Started the walk of shame, carrying bike over my shoulder, while riding partner #2 went to get her car.
Still mile 75 on my bike, but 3 miles down the road: Arrived at bike shop to get spoke fixed. Bought new sunglasses while waiting. After fixing my wheel, the mechanic told me I should not have too much confidence in it because the spoke tension was a mess all around and I should try to get it replaced. GREAT.
Mile 97: Got soaked in dumping rain shower.
Mile 99.8: Pulled onto my street. Rode up and down the block to make the odometer tick over.
Mile 100: Rolled into the garage at 6:46pm. It was a long day.

We're getting excited that maybe the Scottish winter will have finally let go, so that we can get some decent riding in. We're here, so we're all of about three blocks from the River Clyde, with its fabulous bike trail, and with its icy winds!
You're welcome to come practice over here, when it gets too hot in your end of the world. ;)
