Nothing says love like a good pool of sweat

Dave and I celebrated Valentine's Day by going to spin class together. I don't normally go on Thursday nights, and it was just our luck that last night was a special night, not just because love was in the air or whatever. No, last night there was a videographer there from CycleOps getting video footage of the class and the bikes in particular. So in addition to keeping my eye on my wattage and cadence, I had to keep track of where the video camera was so I wouldn't do something particularly stupid or unflattering for posterity.

After the class the camera woman wandered around interviewing folks about their experiences with the bikes. Dave managed to sneak into the locker room, but I gave her the rave review she wanted (I do love the bikes). I must have been drunk on endorphins when I agreed to go on camera -- I looked like a drowned rat, soaked in sweat, with smeared eye makeup and a very stylish froot-loops-rainbow-striped Buff holding my soggy hair back. If we're all lucky the video will show up on the CycleOps web site. Keep your eyes peeled.

I started occupational therapy yesterday. I lucked out and got assigned to a therapist who is training for the Escape From Alcatraz. So he is sympathetic to my needs. The session went well. I got a paraffin dip and a deep-tissue massage, kind of like an uber-manicure. Most of the improvement will come from me stretching and bending my wrist for 15 minutes four times a day at home.

I swam 3200 yards today. Hooray!

Glad you got a good therapist! You might ask about the length of time to spend doing the stretches - the best chiropractor I've had gave me some interesting data about stretching and duration, to the effect that 30-45 seconds of a stretch gives the best overall benefit. Any less, of course, you don't get the full benefit of the stretch. Any more and there's no really large payoff in terms of flexibility. Apparently the US military tested this on large numbers of soldiers going through basic training, and correlated the data. Good stuff, as far as you can trust it - third-hand, and originating with the military, which is why I suggest you ask your therapist about it. I'd be interested to know, as well. ;)
