Going nowhere

Monet at the Legion of Honor

The doctor totally got my hopes up that I'd get the cast off my left arm for good last Thursday. But upon seeing fresh X-rays, he decided I'm best off wearing the cast for ANOTHER TWO WEEKS. Argh. So I'm scheduled to go back next Thursday. Approximately nine days from now. Just in case you're looking forward to this event as much as I am, I have put a Blog Countdown Timer™ in the sidebar. I wish I were kidding.

It has been raining so much that I'm not actually too sad about not riding my bike outside. I've gotten in some great indoor bike workouts. On Saturday I did a longish spin class. I ran for 50 minutes before the class and 30 minutes after. Finally, for the first time this year, I got that familiar dead-leg feeling I get when I run after a long ride. I felt like I had accomplished something.

Sunday's long run had real torture potential. It was supposed to rain all day, so I mentally prepared myself to run on the treadmill at my gym in 30-minute chunks, as there is a 30-minute limit on cardio machines. You have to sign up for a machine even when there is no wait -- even if the place is empty. (I have always found that rule to be stupid and rather mystifying, but whatever.) I was fully prepared to switch treadmills three times to get my two hours in. I had podcasts and fresh music loaded on the Shuffle. But then the weather gods smiled on my running partner and me and we got a rain-free window of exactly one hour and 58 minutes. Normally I love running in rain but I just can't get the cast soaking wet. It's bad enough how much I sweat in it.

If any of you get near me and notice a sour smelly shoe odor, please accept my apologies. Just remember that I have to smell it all day, every day, until February 7.

I love photos of art galleries with nested doorways like this! Thanks.

And you have to sleep with it! Eeeew!

Glad you're getting in the workouts! Me, I'm still trying to decide on the right indoor trainer....
