Coldest run ever

Dave and I went out this morning to earn our Thanksgiving turkey. We ran into the Arctic wind for two and a half minutes until we figured out that it was not easy to run while covering our faces with gloved hands. So we turned around and ran back to the house, tails between legs, to get more fleece. With our faces properly covered, we lasted 28 mintues and ran about 3 miles. Not the huge calorie burn I was hoping for, but certainly better than nothing.

Dave, after gMapping the run: We ran three miles.
Me: You look disappointed.
Dave: Nope. I'm glad we MADE IT HOME ALIVE.

It was 19 degrees F; the 25mph winds made it feel like 0 degrees. Readers in Canada, Chicago and other northern places will probably laugh at me for bring so excited about one run in subfreezing temperatures. I could do it all winter, I guess, but it would require a good trip to REI for proper gear.

(Thanks to Jon for risking frostbite and hypothermia to come outside and take this picture.)

If the windchill was not at least -15F, it was not really cold. But then who am I to say anything? It dropped to about 28F here last night and I was shivering uncontrollably as I took the dog out for 30 seconds to pee. I must move to North Dakota and atone for my lack of winter acclimitization. Also, that photo from yesterday could have been taken from the backyard of the house I grew up in. In which chilly chicago suburb are you sojourning?
